s¼¶ËØÈË Celebrates 50-Plus Years of Women’s Athletics

s¼¶ËØÈË is celebrating over 50 years of women’s athletics, honoring the rich history, achievements, and contributions of female student-athletes, coaches, and teams who have left a lasting impact on the university’s athletic legacy.
As part of the celebration, several milestone events will take place to recognize individuals and teams who have shaped the success of women's athletics at s¼¶ËØÈË.
During halftime of the women’s basketball game on February 8, the will induct seven outstanding coaches who have demonstrated excellence in leadership and commitment to their teams. Their dedication has been instrumental in shaping the Flyers’ athletic program and mentoring generations of student-athletes.
The inductees include Lisa Carlsen, Wendy Hegarty, Jill Karwoski, Karen Lockyer, Erin Murphy-Lorenz, Laurie Goolsby-Schoenfeld, and Catherine "Tat" Shiely.
Another major highlight of the celebration will be the induction during the Flyer Red Dinner on March 26 at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook.
This year’s inductees include George DiMatteo, Joe Falese, Amanda Farrough, Isaac Jean Paul, and Reetta Laakonen. Additionally, two teams—the 1981 women’s volleyball team and the 2001 softball team—will be honored for their remarkable accomplishments. Furthermore, Janeen Decharinte will be recognized as the Brother Raymond McManaman Lasallian of the Year for her commitment to the university’s mission and values.
s¼¶ËØÈË is also organizing several alumni and family events throughout the women’s athletic seasons to commemorate this historic milestone. These special gatherings will provide an opportunity for former athletes, families, and supporters to reconnect and celebrate the achievements of women’s sports at s¼¶ËØÈË. The scheduled events include:
- Women’s Tennis Alumni/Family Event – April 19
- Women’s Lacrosse Alumni/Family Event – April 25
- Women’s Softball Alumni/Family Event – April 26
- Women’s Track Alumni Day – May 3
