s¼¶ËØÈË Men's Volleyball Defeats Lindenwood to Open MIVA Play; Dan Friend Records 400th s¼¶ËØÈË Victory

The No. 12 s¼¶ËØÈË men's volleyball team defeated Lindenwood 3-1 to start Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play Wednesday (Feb. 5). With the victory, Head Coach  achieved win No. 400 at s¼¶ËØÈË.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: s¼¶ËØÈË 25, Lindenwood 20
s¼¶ËØÈË jumped out to an early 5-1 lead after a block from Wymoczyl and Roquet. The Flyers led for the majority of the set outside of it being tied 1-1. 

Lindenwood was able to make it as close as three a few times but the Flyers kept their foot on the gas. Roquet recorded a kill and Morgan picked up a service ace which gave s¼¶ËØÈË a 13-8 lead. 

The Flyers made it 24-17 late in the first set after a kill from  (Torrance, Calif./South High). The Lions tried to rally after scoring three straight points but then s¼¶ËØÈË got the next point off a Lindenwood attack error.

SET 2: s¼¶ËØÈË 25, Lindenwood 18
s¼¶ËØÈË jumped out to an early 7-2 lead after an ace by Morgan. Lindenwood was able to make it as close as 9-5 Flyers but s¼¶ËØÈË got back-to-back points including a kill from  (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) which made it 11-5.

The Lions tried to crawl back in the set after recording three straight points which made it 20-14 s¼¶ËØÈË but the Flyers responded. s¼¶ËØÈË rallied off three straight kills from  (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach), Oguz and Roquet to extend its lead to 23-14.

Lindenwood scored the next four out of five points to make it 24-18. s¼¶ËØÈË was able to win the second set 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.

SET 3: Lindenwood 25, s¼¶ËØÈË 23
s¼¶ËØÈË went up 2-0 early after kills from Haber and Kreuger-Beer but Lindenwood responded with a pair of its own to tie it. The Flyers went on to score three straight until the Lions scored the next four out of five points to tie it at 7-7. 

Both teams would trade points until it was 14-14 after a kill from Roquet. Lindenwood rallied and scored five unanswered to go ahead 19-14 in the set.

The Flyers were able to rally and cut it down to one (23-22) after a pair of kills from Roquet. Lindenwood was able to hold off s¼¶ËØÈË and win the set 25-23 to make it 2-1 in favor of the Flyers.

SET 4: s¼¶ËØÈË 25, Lindenwood 21
Lindenwood looked to force a fifth set after going ahead 6-4 early. s¼¶ËØÈË responded with four straight points including kills from Oguz, Roquet and Haber which gave the Flyers a 8-6 advantage. 

Moments later, the Lions tied it before both teams traded points back and forth until a block from Wymoczyl and Roquet gave s¼¶ËØÈË a 19-17 lead late in the set. The closest the Lions were able to get was 20-19 in favor of the Flyers.

s¼¶ËØÈË was able to close out the set on a 5-2 run which won them the set 25-21 and the match 3-1.

s¼¶ËØÈË will be back in action Saturday, February 8 as the Flyers host a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) contest against McKendree starting at 7 p.m. CT.
