Mariah Smith Named s¼¶ËØÈË Women’s Lacrosse Interim Head Coach

The s¼¶ËØÈË athletic department announced that  has been named the s¼¶ËØÈË Women's Lacrosse Interim Head Coach effective immediately. Smith takes over for Colleen Kincaid, who stepped down last month.
 
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to lead the s¼¶ËØÈË women's lacrosse team this spring," Smith said. "We are growing something really special here at s¼¶ËØÈË, and I do not just mean in talent. I am excited and eager to see what's to come for us this spring and I am thrilled about the role that I get to play in it."
 
Smith served as an assistant coach last season for the program as the Flyers posted a 9-8 record and 3-4 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Three members of the program earned All-GLVC honors, including returner  (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Terry Fox)
 
"I'm excited for this opportunity for Mariah, she has been very involved in recruiting these student-athletes and building this young program," Assistant Vice President for Athletics  said. "I have full confidence in her to lead our student-athletes as our women's lacrosse program looks to build on the success of last season."
 
Smith joined s¼¶ËØÈË after three years at Aurora University as the assistant women's lacrosse coach and interim head coach. While at Aurora, Smith earned her Masters of Business Administration degree.
 
Prior to coaching, Smith was a standout women's lacrosse player for NCAA Division III Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Smith was a four-year starter, three-time all-CCIW and was awarded CCIW Defensive Player of the Year in 2018. 
 
Smith led Illinois Wesleyan to the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2017 and 2018. In 2017 and 2018 Smith was named IWLCA First-Team All-Region. In 2018, Smith earned a spot on the IWLCA All-Star Game. 

"Mariah's investment in our Women's Lacrosse program has been evident in her role as an assistant, particularly as a recruiter and her connection with our student-athletes," Associate Athletic Director Jen Janczak said. "Her commitment to excellence and ability to inspire and develop student-athletes will be instrumental in the continued growth of the program."
 
A national search for s¼¶ËØÈË' next women's lacrosse coach will occur after the season.
